FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to separation of betulin - a valuable organic compound used in medicine, chemical and perfume-cosmetic industry. The method involves hydrolysis of birch bark while boiling and intense stirring in an aqueous solution of 15-25% alkali with hydromodulus 8-10 in the presence of C3 or C4 alcohol for 3-4 hours. After layering of the reaction mass, the alcohol layer is separated and concentrated. The dry residue is washed with water.
EFFECT: simplification of the method by combining steps for alkaline hydrolysis of birch bark and extraction with alcohol, cutting duration of the process; method enables to achieve 95-97% extraction of betulin from birch bark.
