SUBSTANCE: method involves heating of dried leeches an aqueous solution in boiling water bath for 3-15 min followed by centrifugation and gel-filtration through Sephadex G-25. The first protein peak is collected and subjected for affinity chromatography on kallikrein immobilized on water-soluble carrier. Nonbound protein part is collected and the end product is dried. Method provides preparing natural anticoagulating agents, namely hirudine, that is an inhibitor of an enzyme thrombin. Invention can be used in medicine, medicinal industry and veterinary science.
