FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing catalyst for synthesis of vinyl acetate from ethylene, acetic acid and oxygen-containing gas containing palladium in catalyst envelope and optionally gold, comprises impregnating carrier with aqueous solutions of water-soluble noble metal compounds, treating impregnated carrier to precipitate water-insoluble noble metal compounds, reducing water-insoluble noble metal compounds to metallic noble metal by treatment with reducing agent, washing with water and introducing promoter followed by drying. In order to precipitate water-insoluble palladium compounds and optionally gold, barium compound solution is used, and when promoter is introduced, barium salt is added. Addition of barium acetate reduces activity loss rate of envelope-type catalysts from palladium or gold. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 11 cl, 5 dwg, 9 ex, 1 tbl
