FIELD: piston-type compressors. SUBSTANCE: cylinder houses piston with gas-static mount and U- shaped cavity. Bottom part of cavity is partially filled with liquid and communicates with top part through smooth-wall ducts. Compression of working medium makes some portion of the latter pass through check valve of piston and then through cavity and throttles to gap wherein gas layer is formed which prevents piston-to-cylinder contact. For piston cooling, some liquid is supplied from bottom part of U-shaped cavity to top part over labyrinth ducts. Then liquid returns under the action of gravitational forced over smooth-wall ducts to bottom part of U-shaped cavity wherein it is cooled down. It makes it possible to dispense with easily boiling liquids and to specify less stringent requirements for U-shaped cavity sealing.
