FIELD: mining industry. SUBSTANCE: method can be used for supporting of underground workings. According to method, holding of roof implies performance of following operations: injection of liquid under pressure into space under plunger for thrusting support at extension of plunger, installing deformation member into widened neck of external pipe, ensuring drain of liquid from chamber at pressure of roof brought to bear upon plunger and deformation member, deformation of external pipe by means of deformation member. Support has following components: external pipe with open widened neck, plunger adapted for displacement inside and outside external pipe, deformation member in widened neck, means for reducing friction on internal wall of external pipe, chamber in external pipe, means for delivery of liquid medium under pressure into chamber for displacing plunger outside from pipe, sealing unit in chamber for preventing leakage of liquid medium from chamber. Application of aforesaid arrangement ensures long service life and good performance of support due to its pliability. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 16 cl, 19 dwg
