FIELD: vacuum electronics; devices depending for their operation on autoelectronic emission. SUBSTANCE: cathode unit incorporating autoelectronic and secondary-electron emitters is provided, in addition, with magnetic target that builds up magnetic field whose induction vector is parallel with flow of electrons coming from autoelectronic emitter; secondary-electron emitter is spaced from effective surface of autoelectronic emitter at distance not over that of electron deflection due to magnetic field. Position of magnetic target relative to autoelectronic emitter can be varied to obtain optimal deflection of electrons. Examples of implementing design of cathode unit and devices built around it, including planar data-display screens, are given in description of invention.
