FIELD: data recording on magnetic-recording media. SUBSTANCE: recording head has components of first and second poles magnetically coupled in the region of pole shoe and in rear-gap region. Pole-shoe region is located between head surface and zero height of slot. Head also has case region between zero height of slot and rear gap. Set of insulating layers is placed above first-pole component in case region. Each insulating layer starts on top and passes from it towards rear gap. Set usually includes first, second, and third insulating layers. Preferable version has top of second insulating layer arranged so that it determines zero height of head slot which makes it possible to shape second-pole shoe with very narrow track width while shaping second-pole section using standard photolithography process and also to produce very thin insulating layers, coil layer, and second-pole section. EFFECT: reduced manufacturing cost and improved efficiency of head. 18 cl, 16 dwg
