FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: rack-and-pinion mechanism can be used in feed mechanism of stoping and heading mining machines. Rack-and-pinion mechanism has gear rack with rectangular teeth. Engaged with gear rack is pinion with tooth profile made according to radius. Distance from axis of pinion to gear rack tooth is found from following relation , where R2- - radius of circumference in which located are centers of curvature of pinion tooth profile, τ - angular pitch of pinion, R1- - radius of curvature of pinion tooth profile, h - active section of gear rack tooth profile. Width of tooth and of gear rack recess can be equal. Point of pinion coming in engagement with rack gear and point of disengagement can be located in upper half of rack tooth height. Aforesaid embodiment of mechanism simplifies manufacture of gear rack, improves strength of tooth, reduces total height of mechanism, and allows for using it in mining combines with adjustable supporting legs.
