FIELD: fumigation equipment and method. SUBSTANCE: method involves slowly directing gas containing low-concentration gaseous fumigant through product mass; producing "flue pipe effect" (exhaust effect) within silo due to maintained difference between product mass temperature T(g) in silage tower and temperature T(a) of ambient temperature outside silage tower and, as a result, possible unwanted thinning of fumigant; supplying fumigant-containing gas to storage base via pipe to overcome exhaust effect. Gas flow rate Q(f) (cub m/sec) is determined from formula: Q(f)=, where: g is gravitational acceleration (approximately 9.8 m/sq s); P(a) is atmospheric pressure, Pa; R(a) is gas constant for air (=287 J/kg K); T(a) is temperature of air outside silo, K; T(g) is temperature of product in silo, K; R is resistance coefficient, Pa/sec/cub m, depending on type of product in storage; A is storage horizontal section area, sq m. Method may be used for maintaining effective fumigation in a number of storages, with gaseous fumigant being supplied from single source. Apparatus is adapted for fumigating small bulk product 11 stored in silage tower 10 blown through open top. To eliminate exhaust effect, fumigant-containing gas is supplied via pipe 18.
