FIELD: rolling; applicable in railroad engineering. SUBSTANCE: rail has conjugation of heads with neck in cross-section and at least one part of conjugation line of at least one head with neck forming angles by intersection of axes of neck and heads and/or at least one part of line of head and/or neck is made in the form of fragment of oblique conical section of right circular cone. In this case, profound smoothness of transition is provided on curve parts (with preservation of smoothness as rolls are wearing) reducing cost of rail manufacture due to reduction of work for shaping rail in rolling and increased wear resistance of rolling rolls. Smoothness is preserved due to the fact that in roll wear its fragments made in the form of oblique conical section of right circular cone passing into each other (fragments of hyperbola, parabola, ellipse) without coming beyond the frame of conception of oblique conical section of right circular cone. It provides for possibility of rolling of large mass of metal in these rolls with higher accuracy of produced shapes. EFFECT: reduced cost price, higher adaptability to manufacture, reduced specific consumption of materials with preservation of load-carrying capacity under conditions of lateral compression, torsion or bending. 17 cl, 12 dwg
