FIELD: construction engineering. SUBSTANCE: method is used in scientific and engineering investigations carried out in construction activities. According to method, sample of ground is subjected to shearing force at controllable speed of deformation under constant value of normal stress on fixed surface of destruction. Parameters of self-sustained oscillations of distructing shearing strength are measured by means of resonator in the form of resilient member. Also determined are parameters of self-sustained oscillations of tangential stresses over destruction surface. Values of strength characteristics of ground according to description of invention are as follows: τc - cohesion at start of movement, τf - sliding friction, and ic - acceleration at initial movement which is determined with taking account of τmax and τmin - parameters of self-sustained oscillations of tangential stresses over surface being destructed, these are maximal and minimal values respectively, P - normal stress over surface being destructed, g - free fall acceleration. Application of aforesaid method allows for assessment of predictable vibration, seismic, and impact effect on ground bases, earth structures, loose cargo and materials by determining additional strength characteristics of ground which are needed for assessment.
