FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed method of conversion comes to the following: when dimethyl ether is used as fuel, it is injected into engine at compression and expansion stroke. Dimethyl ether is preliminarily compressed to pressure 2-4 times greater than saturated vapor pressure and then is additionally compressed to pressure 5-6 times higher than gas pressure in cylinder at end of compression stroke composing not more than 20% of cyclic delivery. Compression ratio is increased to 14-18. EFFECT: reduced level of harmful matter in exhaust gases, reduced fuel consumption and cost of engine making. 1 dwg
