FIELD: cooling of circulating water at electric power stations. SUBSTANCE: cooling tower has water distributor, sprinkler, pipe lines with heads or nozzles and air guide devices; baffle plates are mounted above sprinkler units over perimeter of tower. Baffle plates are provided with protective covering which may be made in form of lattice or screen. Width of covering is selected to ensure protection of cooling tower equipment against ice which is likely to fall in winter. Covering is so positioned that one or more slits are formed between inner part of baffle plate and area of escape of horizontal flow of air. Height of slits is dictated by maximum permissible sizes of ice crust and construction of water distributors. According to second version, baffle plates mounted over perimeter of tower consist of fixed and swivel boards forming slits on side of inner part of baffle plate. Number of swivel boards may be more than one. In winter, swivel boards are mounted in horizontal position and are fastened with fixed boards.
