FIELD: radiochemical industry; regeneration of waste nuclear fuel. SUBSTANCE: grinding of waste fuel assemblies is effected by means of knife of optimal geometry performing translational motion; separation of external envelope (case tube) of waste fuel assemblies is effected both by wedge-shaped knife proper in the course of cutting and two auxiliary knives of fixed support at deformation of waste fuel assembly being ground between movable hold-down having form of cross section of waste fuel assembly in deformed state and fixed support. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of separation of external envelope; improved quality of cutting; low cost of cutting tools; reduced requirements; high radiation safety of process due to reduced number of movable seats. 3 dwg
