FIELD: power industry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes operations of unloading of spent heat-producing assembly (SHPA) from the reactor, its washing from residue of sodium, thermal annealing of SHPA in a neutral medium at the temperature from 700 up to 750°C within from 1 up to 10 hours at the pressure corresponding to the pressure inside heat-producing elements, its placement in the non-watertight shell, located at the bottom of BV.
EFFECT: increase of corrosion resistance of shells of fuel elements and SHPA covers designed from ferritic-martensitic chromic steels, reduction of radiation and environmental hazard from storage of SNF due to decrease of concentration of radionuclides in cooling pond water.
