FIELD: metallurgy, particularly automatization of mills for continuous and semicontinuous rolling of bars and rods having intermediate and finish stand groups in which rolling is realized with use of free loop. SUBSTANCE: method for automatically controlling process of continuous rolling comprises steps of controlling loop value in four parallel contours including stable and non-stable stages of rolling process in order to provide optimal value of loop and to keep it at predetermined level. Separate contours provide compensation of dynamic error of stand drive units at biting metal in stand rolls and adaptation of control system at deflection of parameters of process from preset values. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of size of rolled pieces, less loss of yield. 5 dwg
