FIELD: shipbuilding; drilling units. SUBSTANCE: drilling unit includes drilling rig, bearing structure for this rig having base for placing it on sea bottom and made in form of concrete block with empty cavity due to which it may float to area of drilling and to receive ballast when it is necessary to submerge block on sea bottom with deck located above surface of sea. Unit provided with tender barge adaptable for motion to drilling area at depth of water more than 1.5 m for servicing drilling rig. Method of conducting drilling jobs in open sea includes delivery (by water) of hollow floating bearing structure to drilling area, delivery (by water) of drilling rig to bearing structure, positioning the drilling rig on deck of bearing structure and motion of tender barge to drilling area.
