METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCTION OF IRON CARBIDE Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

Abstract RU 2139242 C1

FIELD: metallurgical industry; applicable in production of raw material for making pig iron and steel in electric furnaces. SUBSTANCE: method includes partial reduction with hydrogen of ore containing hematite; carburization of partially reduced product with methane to produce iron carbide. Partial reduction is carried out to obtain content of metallic iron equalling 20-75 at.wt.% of total content of iron. Final degree of conversion is up to 99 at. wt. % of total content of iron. Temperature at the first and second stages is 550-750 C, gage pressure of 2- 10.9 kgf/sq.cm. The first and second stages have independent circulation circuits. Device has two independent reaction plants, for instance, reactors with fluidized bed, gas cleaning means for removal of dust from exhaust gas, compressors with heaters for supply of reaction gases to reaction plants. Independent circulation circuits allow individual supply of reaction gases to plants, setting and regulation of process conditions, reduction of overall dimensions of equipment and power consumption.
