FIELD: chemistry of organosulfur compounds, more particularly utilization of bis(2-chloroethyl)sulfide, namely yprite. SUBSTANCE: method comprises treating yprite with aqueous alkali solution in hydrophilic dimethylsulfoxide solvent. Reaction is carried out under stirring and heating in system provided with reflux. Reaction proceeds very vigorously at temperatures from 85 to 110 C and at optimum alkali to yprite to water radio of 1: 0.5:(2-5) and ceases in 15-20 minutes, and salt precipitate is formed. EFFECT: high level of conversion, high process rate and selectivity, small amount of disactivating agents and industrial accessibility thereof. 2 cl, 3 ex
