FIELD: chemical technology, more particularly preparation of chromium bis-(cyclopentadienyl) polymerization catalyst component. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing chromocene comprises reacting sodium cyclopentadienyl with chromium trichloride in tetrahydrofuran or mixture of tetrahydrofuran with hydrocarbon solvents (toluene, mineral oil) at elevated temperature and subsequently replacing tetrahydrofuran by toluene by adding toluene to reaction mixture at elevated temperature and by distillation of tetrahydrofuran, subsequently filtering the resulting mixture to remove solid waste, washing precipitate (waste) with toluene to remove residues of desired chromocene. Reaction of sodium cyclopentadienyl with chromium trichloride is carried out in the presence of powder-like substance selected from group consisting of aerosil, silica gel, perlite, bentonite, or kieselguhc.
