SUBSTANCE: method involves filling sintered porous nickel base with required amount of active material by impregnating it with cadmium nitrate followed by transforming it to cadmium hydroxide and subjecting to heat treatment in reducing environment such as in hydrogen, under conditions ensuring desired cadmium content in active material found from equation K = {[6,144•(M1-M0)/(M2-M0)]-7}•100%, where K is calculated proportion of metal cadmium; M0, M1 and M2 is mass of plate before and after impregnation, as well as after heat treatment, respectively, which is maintained between 25 and 50%.
