METHOD OF DETERMINATION OF LEVEL OF INTESTINAL FISTULA IN PERITONITIS Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

Abstract RU 2140212 C1

FIELD: medicine, particularly, abdominal surgery; applicable in determination of level of intestinal fistula in acute general pyoperitoneum. SUBSTANCE: method includes collection of day amount of chyme from patient's small intestine fistula into graduated glass vessel; calculation of day amount of collected chyme; determination of chyme color, odor and beginning of its appearance from fistula after meal taking. With day amount of chyme from 2 to 4 liters and its appearance from fistula after meal taking within 2 to 25 min, and with present food residues, bile, mucus in chyme, we testify that high fistula of digestive tract has formed against background of acute general pyoperitoneum. This case requires urgent closing of high intestinal fistula. Day chyme discharged from fistula in amount of 0.6-2 l and its appearance from fistula after taking meal within 1 to 4 h having yellowish color, without food and bile are indicative of fistula location at the level of ileum against background of acute general pyoperotoneum. In this case, urgent formation of artificial fistula is required at the level of ileum. EFFECT: simple method allowing selection of rational surgical treatment, determination of level of intestinal fistula without inflicting to patient of additional injury.
