FIELD: processing of bismuth-containing compounds. SUBSTANCE: bismuth citrate is precipitated from nitrate solution at pH of 0-0.75 and at 50-90 C by addition of citric acid solution at citrate-ion to bismuth molar ratio of 1.0-1.5:1, washing of precipitate with water and drying of product at 60-200 C. EFFECT: simplified process, elimination of operation of crystallization of bismuth nitrate and its conversion into hydroxide by treatment with ammonia solution by more than 1.6 times, smaller consumption of citric acid, elimination of use of ammonia, and substantially shorter drying time of the product. 2 ex, 1 tbl
