FIELD: methods of treatment of carbon-containing materials. SUBSTANCE: method of treatment of carbon-containing material having form of particles where carbon is present as free or atomic carbon contaminated with toxic component includes loading and melting at top submerged blast in reactor is presence of fluid slag; in the course of melting, oxygen-containing gas is injected through upper submerged tube and volatile toxic components are removed with reactor waste gases and nonvolatile toxic components are transferred into slag. Method is performed at temperature of 1100 to 1400 C. Slag is silicon anhydride slag including ferric oxide and at least one oxide from group: Al2O3, CaO, MgO. Amount of ferric oxide contained in slag is determined by the following reactions: 2FeO(slag)+1/2O2= 2FeO1,5(slag), 2FeO1,5(slag)+C = 2FeO(slag)+CO. Reactions are sustained due to eddy of slag created due to top submerged injection of oxygen-containing gas.
