FIELD: melting of initial raw material containing iron in reactor with slag bath. SUBSTANCE: method includes provision of heat and reduction conditions in at least one zone of reduction of bath by injection of fuel-reducer and gas containing oxygen through at least one overhead submersible tuyere. Initial raw material is charged into reactor together with additional material and with flux into at least one zone of reduction or to adjacent zone so that they are subjected to reducing melting. Additional reducer is used in the form of coal. Injection rates of oxygen and fuel-reducer are regulated to achieve the required conditions sufficient for reduction by supplying of injected gas with oxygen content from 40 to 100% that is sufficient for burning of approximately 40 to 50% of fuel-reducer, and produced in the course of melting process carbon monoxide, hydrogen and also coal dust carrying-out from bath by gaseous combustion products are subjected to final combustion in reactor to provided for sufficient heating of bath and to prevent repeated oxidation of bath contents.
