FIELD: technical chemistry, particularly, methods of preparation of catalysts for conversion of methane and other hydrocarbons by steam or carbon dioxide in production of synthesis gas containing CO and H2. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is made in form of catalytic tube whose wall is coated with catalytic layer including preceding compounds in form of solution of salts applied to tube wall and forming during calcination of reducible and nonreducible oxides. Preceding compounds are used in form of powdery substances which consist of nonvolatile, nonsoluble, or low soluble compounds of transition metals of period 4 of Periodic table, or their mixtures, and/or rare-earth metals, or their mixtures, and /or zirconium, and/or alkali-earth elements, and/or their mixtures, and/or platinum metals, or their mixtures, and aluminium, or various combinations of all individual, or mixed compounds of above-mentioned elements. Process of preparation of catalytic layer includes mixing of powders, their arrangement in molding device permeable for gaseous substances together with metal tube, treatment in oxidizing and/or damp atmosphere of molding device together with powdery components and metal tube with subsequent withdrawal of article in form of tube with catalytic layer, its drying and calcination. In this case, catalytic layer presence highly porous thick-layered self-adhesion coating 0.6-10.0 mm thick, applied to external or internal surface of tube.
