FIELD: chemical industry, more particularly preparation of high-boiling glycol alkyl ethers using n-butanol and ethylene oxide. SUBSTANCE: high-boiling glycol monobutyl ethers are prepared by oxyethylation of n-butanol in the presence of ethylene-glycol monobutyl ethers by base catalysis. Reaction products are separated by rectification. Original mixture for oxyethylation includes distillate resulting from separation of reaction mixture which comprises, wt %: n-butanol, 37-49; ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, 24-32; diethylene glycol monobutyl ethyl, 26-32, n-butanol is further added to distillate to form mixture comprising the following components, wt %: n-butanol, 39-51; diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, 23-29; ethylene oxide is added to mixture in amount of 1.7-2.3 wt per 1 weight part of n- butanol added anew.
