FIELD: design of instruments intended to locate points of fault of all types in power transmission and communication lines. SUBSTANCE: device incorporates synchronization unit which input is connected to first output of computation unit and first and second outputs are linked correspondingly to first input of generator of probing pulses and second input of receiver of reflected pulses connected with first input to second output of generator of probing pulses, indication unit connected with input to fifth output of computation unit which second input- output is connected to input-output of receiver of reflected pulses, second and third outputs are linked to second input of generator of probing pulses and third input of receiver of reflected pulses correspondingly. Device is supplemented with commutation unit of wave channels, unit of interfaces, detector of wave processes connected with first input to line energized from outside source, with second input to third output of synchronization unit, with input-output to first input-output of computation unit, with third input-output to second input-output of unit of interfaces connected with fourth output to first input of commutation unit of wave channels connected with second input to first output of generator of probing pulses, with first output - to body of device and cable armor, with second, third and fourth outputs - to conductors of multiconductor cable, with fifth and sixth outputs - to first and second inputs of unit of interfaces connected with first output to fourth input of receiver of reflected pulses connected with third and fourth inputs to terminals for connection of outside objects for measurement of resistance and voltage connected with first input- output to connector for connection of personal computer and with second output - to connector for connection of printer.
