FIELD: power engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to diagnostics of power transmission lines and is intended for measurement of distance to damage point, and also separation of damage tapping in ramified electric grid. Probing pulses such as discrete-coded signals are generated to line under investigation. Reflected signals are received. Damage point is detected by absence of reflected pulse with information criterion, which individualises at least specific tapping. As informative criterion they use matched filtration of discrete-coded signal at appropriate ends of line.

EFFECT: accurate and well-defined detection of damage point at any configuration of power transmission line and independently on type of equipment installed in tappings.
