FIELD: corrosion testing. SUBSTANCE: invention is used to determine degree of risk of corrosion penetration and protection of metal structures contacting current- conducting and poorly conducting media. Gear is made of body electrically shorted to structure manufactured from same material as structure. Part of body contacting middle part of body has less thickness than wall of structure. Space of body is filled with nonconducting inert capillary-porous material into which metal electrode is inserted to form electric contact between body and electrode. Recording device is placed between body and electrode. Such implementation of gear makes it feasible to simplify its design and to ensure remote detection of dangerous penetration of local corrosion independent of pressure, temperature, motion of medium and type of structure whose corrosion is tested.
