FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: working surface of engine cylinder and piston crown are provided with composite coating applied by microarc oxidation and containing aluminium and silicon oxides. Outer layer of coating of engine parts is removed mechanically, and thickness of coating on cylinder working surface if less than that on piston crown. Installation for application of coating has thyristors for delivering alternating voltage pulses of opposite polarity to part, thyristor control unit, capacitor connected in series with first thyristor to form positive (anode) current pulses, and rectifying element for recharging the capacitor. Series- connected capacitor and rectifying element form circuit for shaping main negative (cathode) current pulses, and second thyristor is connected in parallel with above-indicated circuit to shape additional cathode current pulses. EFFECT: enhanced operating characteristics of engine and increased efficiency of installation. 5 cl, 3 dwg
