FIELD: oil and gas industry, water supply and water removal in public utilities. SUBSTANCE: process measuring level of liquid media includes emission of sounding signal perpendicular to surface of liquid, reception of signal reflected from boundary separating media and measurement of time interval functionally related to measured level. Sounding and reflected signals are channeled in waveguiding path in the form of longitudinal acoustic waves. These signals are received in sequence in two points that are located at fixed distance one from another below level of emission point and outside of space of waveguiding path. Lower point of reception is positioned above maximum permissible level of liquid for given vessel and measured level ll of liquid is found by formula ll= L-l1tx/αt0, where L is distance from lower point of reception of signals to bottom of vessel; l0 is distance between first and second points of reception of signals; t0 is time interval between reception of sounding signal in first and second points; tx is time interval between reception of sounding and reflected signals in second point. EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of measurement of level of liquids in reservoirs and flutes of open, closed and underground type, simplified realization, increased noise immunity and low energy capacity. 2 dwg
