FIELD: hydraulic engineering. SUBSTANCE: method implies creation of curtain in the form of air-water microbubbles mixture. Streams of this mixture are discharged in close-to-bottom area of basin in front of water-intake. Air-water microbubbles curtain can be produced by combined hydrodynamic treatment of water and air. Treatment can be carried out in hydrodynamic cavitation mixer at difference of pressure at inlet to hydrodynamic cavitation mixer which is determined from following relation: where ΔP - difference of pressure at inlet to hydrodynamic cavitation mixer and in its most narrow cross-sectional area, kg/sq. cm, V - velocity in most narrow cross-sectional area of hydrodynamic cavitation mixer, m/s, ρ - average density of air-water mixture, kg/cub. m, ε - preset value which characterizes average size of microbubbles in mixture. Device has perforated manifold and is provided with successively connected water-supply pipeline and hydrodynamic cavitation mixer which is made with air-intake pipe union. Outlet of hydrodynamic cavitation mixer is connected to inlet of perforated manifold. Aforesaid arrangement and design of components allow for enhancing efficiency of method and device together with reduction of their cost. It also allows for prolonging service life of equipment and for its adaptability to water-basin conditions. Area of application is also widened. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 9 cl, 8 dwg
