FIELD: sea geology, search for and identification with the aid of nondestructive proximate analysis of element composition of substance of underwater object. SUBSTANCE: specific feature of invention consists in irradiation of ground of unknown composition by repeating pulses of neutron flux generated by two pulse neutron generators. Secondary photon ( gamma ) radiation is recorded by detector located close to ground and coupled to analyzing equipment. Secondary neutrons are registered in addition by detector fitted with filter made form heavy metal, for example, bismuth and secondary photon ( gamma-) radiation is recorded by another detector that is screened by filter made from light metal, for instance lithium hydride. Registration of secondary photon ( gamma-) radiation and secondary neutrons is conducted in the course of sequential limited time intervals between pulses of primary neutrons. Values of identification criterion are computed by usage of accumulated equipment spectra which are later compared with threshold value that is entered and stored in analyzing equipment. After this type of ground is identified. EFFECT: improved possibility of identification of element composition of underwater ground. 2 cl, 2 dwg
