FIELD: measuring equipment, in particular, microwave meters of distance to reflecting object, applicable, for example, for measurement of the level of liquid (petroleum products) in tanks. SUBSTANCE: the method is based on measurement of complex reflectivity of the microwave radiator antenna. The specific feature of the method of measurement is the finding of number m of radiation half-waves between the antenna and object, on the grounds of which the distance to be measured is calculated at a known frequency (wavelength). For finding of number m the value of frequency variation required for variation of m by certain integer n is determined. The specific feature of the device is the provision of a means for measurement of power consumed by the microwave oscillator, with the aid of which the antenna complex reflectivity is measured.
