FIELD: cleaning of gases from sulfurous compounds. SUBSTANCE: gases are cleaned from sulfur-containing compounds. Gases are cleaned from sulfurous compounds by oxidation thereof with oxygen to sulfur and/or disulfides in oxide catalyst bed followed by separation of sulfur from the cleaned gas. Catalyst comprises from 5 to 100 wt.% of active component and is essentially monolithic unit made of individual porous members with through passages. At least 50% of pores present in members have size from 1000 to 5000 , and pore volume varies from 0.15-0.50 cu. cm/g. EFFECT: simplified process of cleaning gases from sulfurous compounds, and ecologically safe process. 6 cl, 35 ex
