METHOD OF DUMP SLAGS PROCESSING Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, methods of processing of dump slags, mainly, electric furnace production of grade steels. SUBSTANCE: dump slags are processes in cold state by mechanical methods with additional magnetic and pneumatic separation. Method includes primary vibration separation and subsequent stage crushing of material up to final fractions of 0-5 and 5-10 mm with intermediate separation of pure metallic scrap before each stage of crushing, and also with intermediate vibration screening by fractions. Larger fractions are directed for repeated crushing. Finally crushed slag is subjected to gravity separation. In slag vibration separation, at the first stages of processing, roller grates allowing magnetizing of metals contained in slag are used to increase yield of metal from slag by magnetic separation. Besides, some technological improvements are introduced in process of pneumatic separation of slag. All these measures result in rising of metals recovery degree from slag up to 98%. Obtained metal contains in addition to iron, nickel, chromium, tungsten, vanadium, molybdenum. They are directed for remelting and used in further secondary metallurgical conversion processes, and slag remaining after recovery of metal is used in construction.
