FIELD: mechanical engineering; engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed method employs relatively simple mechanisms easy to built into engine. According to this method control action is introduced into process of intermediate opening of exhaust valve caused by pressure rise in exhaust gas with throttling gear in throttling position. Closing of exhaust valve after intermediate opening is prevented by control device built into mechanism acting onto exhaust valve independently from camshaft. Exhaust valve is kept partially opened until it is opened completely under action of camshaft. EFFECT: provision of required braking power at reduced expenses and simplified design. 10 cl, 10 dwg
