FIELD: recovery and disposal of radioactive wastes in nuclear industry and nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: iodine extracted from waste gas and dust is immobilized for its reliable storage. Immobilizing method involves iodine extraction from radioactive wastes by chemical adsorption on zeolite NaX or its newly prepared metal-substituted forms, drying-out of material obtained, its rubbing to powder state, dehydration, and hot molding in 0.3-1% water environment at 500-1000 C and 0.5-1.5 kbars for 3-6 days. EFFECT: improved environmental friendliness due to simplified procedure.
