FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves making puncture in intervertebral space at the level of III-IV lumbar vertebra, when admitting a patient in hospital. Cerebrospinal fluid is taken and contents of lipid peroxidation products like malonic dialdehyde and diene conjugates (MDA and DC, respectively) are determined. MDA and DC concentrations being not more than 3.4-3.7 times in excess, respectively, light brain contusion is to be diagnosed. MDA and DC concentrations being 3.8- 10.5 and 3.5-9.0 times higher, brain contusion of moderate severity degree is to be diagnosed. MDA concentration being 10.5 times higher and DC one being more than 9 times as large, severe cerbrocranial trauma is to be diagnosed. EFFECT: simplified and reliable method. 1 tbl
