FIELD: medicine, particularly, neurosurgery, neurotraumatology and orthopedics. SUBSTANCE: method and device are used to protect vessels and tissues against damage caused by surgical instruments during operations on vertebral column. Vessels and tissues are fixed by guarding operative field with separate limiters shaped as plates which are introduced into vertebra bodies with their needles. Every plate is bent transversely, and it has needles and through hole on bent-out part. Hole is made to fit corresponding instrument. The instrument is shaped as rod with end recess for moving upon through hole edge as far as it will go. In guard formation limiters with transverse bend are positioned with their part free of needles beyond space of operative field, if possible. As a result, enlarged view of operative field is obtained and it may be easily extended. Mechanical strength of limiters is enhanced without increasing their thickness.
