FIELD: preparation of composite materials. SUBSTANCE: composite material comprises aerogel and fibers distributed therein. Aerogel includes cracks and aerogel fragments surrounded by cracks and bonded by fibers. Average volume of aerogel fragments varies from 0.001 cubic mm to 1 cubic cm. Composition material is prepared by mixing sol with fibers, converting sol into gel, deforming gel to form cracks, drying gel to obtain aerogel.
