FIELD: guiding continuous billets in continuous casting plants for making thin steel ingots. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of pouring steel to mold and drawing ingot with use of rollers between which cooled plate like segments are arranged; indirectly cooling billet by means of plate like segments; placing set of distributing pipelines supplying gas for direct cooling billet at side of plate like segment turned towards continuous billet; arranging mouths of distributing pipelines with inclination relative to direction of ingot drawing in such a way that to hold billet in mold and to influence upon rate of continuous casting process. Gas passes between continuous billet and plate like segments. EFFECT: manufacture of continuously cast billet with improved surface quality at high casting speeds. 17 cl, 4 dwg
