FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: procedure determining losses of optical power in connection of optical fibers while mounting insert of optical cable consists in connection of optical fibers of cable insert to optical fibers of face-to-face length of cable, first from nearest end, in determination of correction for connection of optical fibers of cable insert, first from nearest end, in determination of correction for each link of face-to-face length over elementary cable section. In this case optical reflectometer operating in time region is connected in turn to two sides of connection, characteristics of backward scattering of fibers used to evaluate losses of optical power in connection on both ends are measured and correction is found by given formulas. Then correction for face-to-face length over which cable insert is mounted is determined. After it losses of optical power in connection are found. EFFECT: decreased time spent for execution of emergency and repair operations. 1 dwg
