FIELD: optical communication. SUBSTANCE: procedure determining losses of optical power in connection of optical fibers while optical cable is wired consist in connection of reflectometer operating in time region at end nearest to optical fiber of cable, in measurement of characteristic of backward scattering of optical fiber which is used to evaluate losses of optical power in connection of optical fibers on side of nearest end. Auxiliary fiber which length is three-five times greater than extent of " dead " zone of optical reflectometer is connected in series in advance with fiber first on one then with another length of cable. Characteristic of backward scattering is measured by sequential connection of optical reflectometer operating in time region on side of auxiliary fiber and fiber of spliced length of cable. Losses of optical power in connection of spliced fibers is determined by given formula with allowance for evaluation of losses and resulting correction found by presented formula. EFFECT: reduced time spent on measurement of losses. 1 dwg
