FIELD: measurement technology, construction of fiber-optical communication lines, repair and restoration operations on communication lines. SUBSTANCE: in compliance with procedure establishing losses of optical power in joints of optical fibers in process of mounting of optical cable optical reflectometer working in time region is connected to near end of optical fiber, characteristic of backscattering of optical fiber is measured and utilized for estimation of losses an of optical power in joint of optical fibers on side of near end and losses a of optical power in joint of spliced fibers are found by formula a = an+Δ, where Δ - is correction established beforehand. First optical fibers are adjusted, axes of spliced fibers are displaced relative one another through value d1 and their butts are shifted to positive stop prior to execution of joint of optical fibers, characteristic of backscattering of optical fiber by which losses of optical power in joint of optical fibers on side of near end an1 is estimated is measured. Then axes of spliced fibers are displaced relative one another by value d2 and their butts are shifted to positive stop, characteristic of backscattering of optical fibers is measured and used to estimates losses an2 of optical power in joint of optical fibers on side of near end. Thereafter correction is found by formula , value K of constant is found from relation , where are magnitudes of values an1,an2,d1,d2 correspondingly which are found in advance by measurement at joints of fibers with same diameters of spot of mode. EFFECT: reduced volume of work spent to measure losses of optical power in joints of optical fibers while optical cable is mounted. 1 dwg
