FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: method may be used for preparation of translucent protective member with visually discernible plane pattern from optical, diffraction marks with incoherent reflecting coating and transparent connecting strips placed into external film. The method includes formation in initial film by molding of microrelief structures and coating with reflecting coating of obtained structured varnish coating of initial film over its entire surface. Etching compound is applied to reflecting coating with use of printing to form printed image consisting of sections. Reflecting coating is removed from these sections with aid of etching compound to uncover surface of varnish coating and for creation of external films on varnish coating on sections. Remaining sections of reflecting coating are coated with at least transparent protective coating. In this case, appeared on sections are transparent connecting strips presenting direct combination of varnish coating with protective coating. EFFECT: simple and economical method of preparation of partially metallized surface patterns on documents. 16 cl, 2 dwg
