FIELD: measurement technology, measurement of velocity and movement of examined medium in various fields of science and technology. SUBSTANCE: examined medium can be clear liquid or any structural unit-solid acoustooptical cell rigidly coupled to tested object. Acoustic wave is excited in medium. Light beam is let pass through medium. Changes of characteristics of light beam across output from medium are recorded and used to estimate velocity and movement of medium. Length of acoustic wave and diameter of light beam are values of same order. In specific case second acoustic wave which length and diameter of light beam are values of same order and which crosses first acoustic wave is excited in medium. Light beam is passed through region of crossing of two acoustic waves and parameters of modulation of intensity of light beam of each acoustic wave are recorded separately. Method allows movement of acousooptical cell along axis of light beam to be evaluated and fluctuations of velocity of sound caused by change of temperature, chemical composition and so on of medium to be found.
