FIELD: electrothermics; plasma generator control. SUBSTANCE: method involves ignition of working arc between electrode and metal. If electrical variable indicating shorting-out arcs between nozzle and metal exceeds critical value, working-arc current is reduced. Novelty is that nozzle temperature is additionally used as controlled variable characterizing arc burning stability; this temperature is referred to in controlling shielding gas supply and varying working arc current. EFFECT: improved service life of plasma generator.
