FIELD: removal of the mass of polymeric material from metal fitting in the process of salvage of worn-out tyres, mechanical rubber goods, products of cable industry, polymeric facing of containers and other reinforced products. SUBSTANCE: method is based on digestion of polymeric materials in fused NaOH-KOH with addition of metal oxides of variable valency used as catalyst, through which air is bubbled. The method is accomplished in a single stage, and no coke residue is formed at digestion. Low temperature of the process prevents formation of nitrogen oxides. Catalytic oxidation of polymeric material is not accompanied by separation of gaseous organic substances, soot, which reduces harmful effect on the environment.
